Week 5 Reflection and Summary: Design<\/h2>\n\n\n

Going into this week I was not sure what I would read and learn about. Before this week whenever I thought of design, I just assumed it meant how things look and how they are arranged. After going through all the assigned readings and videos I now realize that there are many concepts that make up what we see in designs. From color to composition, to scale and fonts, design is more complex than what you initially see. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vignelli Canon Reflection<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this post<\/a> I talk about my findings from Vignelli’s book and pick some topics I found most important. I also discuss what those topics look like today. While I do note that many of his findings were written without digital media that we see now and how some may find it out of date, I do also believe many of his key findings can be found all around us. Design Blitz Assignment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this assignment<\/a> I was able to explore a local area and how design concepts are found everywhere. Whether it be newspapers, menus, signs, displays etc it is very likely that you would find a few design concepts. I chose five design concepts to include in my blog post and how they are shown in the photographs I took. I appreciate the fact that this was an assignment and now has me noticing different design elements in everything around me. I also find this very useful as I am in a digital art class and may be working with graphic design in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week really taught me a lot about design and how to be more intentional with any of my future projects. I found it very beneficial to go through several resources regarding design. I also believe that learning about design concepts can be used to your advantage to help make more accessible media for a wider audience. Even something as simple as using colors that don’t mesh well or give viewers a harder time to analyze can deter them away from what you make. The thing I most enjoyed would have to be the Vignelli reading, it was simple yet very informative. As someone who has never worked creatively with digital media or given a second thought about design I was very intrigued. I enjoyed the reading a lot as it gave me insight to concepts I have never even thought existed.
